Zedashe Ensemble: Singing Workshop

The Caucasus Republic of Georgia has one of the world’s most ancient and striking three-part harmony-singing traditions. Based in the medieval fortress city of Sighnaghi in eastern Georgia, Ensemble Zedashe strives to preserve authentic performances of Georgian polyphony and dance, the life blood of their country. Founded in 2000 by Ketevan Mindorashvili and her brother Shalva and their friends, Zedashe brings back to life the work songs, ballads, church chants, love songs, war dances, and ritual circle dances so common in traditional Caucasian life.
Zedashe has hosted Village Harmony camp visits to Sighnaghi since 2001 and they have been the primary teachers of Georgian music at Village Harmony camps in Georgia since 2003. Since their enthusiastically recieved US tour in 2002 they have further matured as an ensemble, considerably expanding their repertoire, honing their teaching skills, and adding two solo dancers to the troupe. This workshop is a great opportunity for a weekend of in-depth exposure to songs and dances from Georgia’s different regions.
Workshop Schedule
Saturday
- 1:30-2:30 – registration, check-in

- 4:00 – Zedashe Concert for workshop participants ONLY.
Overnight Accommodations are at the great Stone House at the Shaker Museum in Enfield, NH, near I-89 Exit #17. There are 20 rooms, each with two queen sized beds furnished in Shaker style and with adjacent or private bathroom. Guests will need to bring their own bed linens and towels. Commuters are also welcome, at a reduced price.
Fees
- With accommodation, two per room, and three meals: $125
- With accommodation, four per room (two sharing queen beds), and meals: $110
- Commuters, including Saturday supper and Sunday lunch: $95
