All proceeds from the sale of this video will be used to preserve the art and treasures in the Georgian State Museum of Art in Tbilisi.
Provides a rare chance to view treasures from this ancient country. The video includes images of the art & culture of a civilization older than Greece or Rome. It is an uncensored presentation made by independent scholars about this former Soviet state. With views of sweeping landscapes and rare objects of precious metals, painting, and architecture combined with the sound of the famous polyphonic singing, it provides an overview of Georgian culture and history up to the present day. The video premiered in Tbilisi in May 2004; it was heralded by the Georgian minister of culture as the most important and only record of Georgia's cultural heritage available to a western audience.
This was a collaborative project by Maureen Ahern, director of the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery (Keene State College, Keene, NH) and Irina Koshoridze, head of the Department of Oriental Arts at the S. Amiranshvili Georgian State Museum of Art in Tbilisi, as part of an exhange through the American Association of Museums, International Partnership Among Museums.
