This workshop in residence in western Massachusetts will feature music—and a smattering of dance—from widely divergent regions of the world. Patty will choose pieces from her large world folk repertoire, to include music from South Africa, eastern Europe and traditional America. Linda Hirschhorn is new to Village Harmony but known to many of us through her compositions and rounds; she will be teaching us folk song arrangements in Hebrew and Ladino (a combination of Hebrew and Spanish) and some of her own songs. Susanne Rosenberg is one of Sweden’s foremost folk singers and is also teaching with us for the first time. She will bring across the ocean her own exciting Scandinavian folk arrangements and plans to coach us in some quite stunning folk-singing techniques, including kulning and vocal jazz and modern art methods.

The Roundhouse
This marvelous facility was purpose-built as a retreat center by the owner, story-teller Bekki Tippens. The 14-sided building is filled with ingenious and fanciful detail work. The main room is round, a fabulous singing space with an encircling balcony and 3-story domed ceiling and ample nooks and corners for reading, relaxing and socializing. The majority of the beds are in small sleeping cubbies resembling ships’ berths, radiating off a second floor circular hallway. There are also a number of private sleeping rooms, both in the house and in the adjacent small cottage, plus tent space on the land. Bekki is a gracious host and will help plan menus and help out in the kitchen.
